An Atlas V rocket recently lifted off with Curiosity on its way to Mars. Not only is this a great opportunity for scientists to learn about the red planet, it is really cool! The video shows the stages falling off of the rocket, too (an example of rocket staging).
This is another example of modern rocketry from SpaceX. Note how the stages land VERTICALLY. And, the entire rocket is reusable!
